Who we are
Adult and community education has experienced significant growth in providing education to the adult population of NSW. In 2007 there were over 329 000 enrolments and more than 7 million student contact hours delivered by community colleges across the state.
Adult and community education is supported by the NSW Department of Education and Training through grants to community colleges across NSW. The Adult and Community Education Unit in the Department promotes community education, supports funded community colleges and provides information and advice on community education across the state.
The NSW Minister for Education and Training is also advised on adult and community education by the NSW Advisory Committee on Community Education. The committee draws its twelve members from adult and community education providers, other government departments and relevant non-government organisations.
